Welcome to Stories of Love and Loss.

There is something radical about finding joy in a conversation about grief — and that’s exactly what happened when I sat down with Barri Grant.

I love creating brave spaces with people who care deeply about reclaiming a healthy relationship with grief and loss, and Barri brought that energy in full. A self-appointed Chief Grief Officer of The Memory Circle, she has spent the last decade leaning into a powerful next chapter — shining light into the dark places most of us would rather look away from. She talks openly about the things nobody want to talk about — and she does it with warmth, humor, and an unshakable belief that the bereaved deserve better.

Barri is passionate about changing the everyday language around grief, so that those who are hurting feel seen and supported rather than silenced and shunned. That passion gave rise to Permission Granted, a community built to bring hope to people who feel isolated in their loss.

She is also a fierce advocate for grief and loss literacy — because understanding grief is how we begin to heal.

I walked away from our conversation more inspired than when I arrived, and even more rooted in the importance of this work. I think you will too.

We hope this conversation helps you feel less isolated and provides you with fresh language that fosters hope and healing.
